Skip the treadmill and grab a drum...

An article published in 2005 in The Medical Science Monitor theorizes and then later proves that drumming can lower stress. The study goes on to say that drumming lowered stress no matter the age, gender, physical ability or experience of those drumming. People that practice drumming regularly, even just for a few minutes per day, showed lower stress levels than other folks who had a similar lifestyle, minus the drumming.

Seems to us here at Pagan Sounds that drumming is a healthy way for you to lower stress, get a bit of a workout, and have some fun while you’re at it. If you drum in a circle, there’s a community aspect too and lots of studies have found that the more social we are the healthier we tend to be overall.

There are drum circles all over the United States, in practically every community. Some focus on a particular style of drumming, perhaps culturally-based, others are more like informal get-together in parks or community centers. If you do a little digging on the Internet, or talk with your favorite Pagan Sounds person (www.pagansounds.com) you’ll be sure to find some local drum circle that you can sit in with.

Interestingly enough, even companies like Toyota have added drum rooms in some of their factories, complete with ashikos, djun-djuns and djembes. Seems like banging on a djembe for 30 minutes helps make better cars as well!

And having written all of this, it’s time to head out for a half hour of stress-reducing, cardio-building, and fun – or as we like to call it – Drumming!
